Becoming a CS Major

Submit your application to the CS major!

Note to students in the College of Engineering:  You must also submit the appropriate Engineering form (Major Affiliation form, Change of Major form, or Double Major form).


Affiliation Application Timeline:

  • Applications received between January 1 and May 31 are processed by August 1 (prior to add/drop for Fall semester).
  • Applications received between June 1 and December 31 are processed by mid-January (prior to add/drop for Spring semester).


In order to affiliate with the CS major, applicants must meet all three of the following criteria:

Criterion 1:
Grades of C (not C-) or better in all completed CS and MATH courses, including all critical math courses from the list in Criterion 3.

Criterion 2:
GPA of 2.5 or better in CS 2110/2112 and 2800/2802.

- Alternatively, a GPA of 2.5 or better between ECE 2400/ENGRD 2140 and CS 2800/2802 and CS 3110.
- The CS GPA calculation may be supplemented by the following courses: CS 3110 and CS 3410/3420.

Criterion 3:
GPA of 2.3 or better in MATH 1120/1920 and any other completed critical math course(s) from the following list: MATH 2210, MATH 2220, MATH 2940, MATH 4710, BTRY/STSCI 3080, CS 4850, ECON 3130, ECE 3100, and ENGRD 2700
-If only AP/CASE/transfer credit appears for MATH 1120/1920, then another critical math course will be needed for the computation (at least one critical math course must have been taken at Cornell).
 

Please note: Current and rising Seniors must demonstrate the ability to complete the CS degree program by their current graduation date.
